Elementary Curriculum Modules "The Story of Units" K-5
New York State has contracted with Common Core Inc. to develop mathematics curriculum aligned to the Common Core. Modules for the fall semester are being released during the summer of 2013. The modules for the spring will be released around November or December.
One document that will help you get acquainted with the curriculum modules is "A Story of Units: A Curriculum Overview for Grades P-5" (revised July 2013) This document outlines the modules that will be developed for each grade level and shows the standards that aligned to each module. Pay attention to the introduction to your grade level, this information will help you see what each grade level is doing to move forward the students' understanding of mathematics.
The document that explains the philosophy and the structure of the modules is called "How to Implement "A Story of Units" (minor revisions July 2013) This resource is useful because it explains how units and the way we model math, can help students make connections between what they have learned in the past and what they are currently learning. This is worth reading even if you do not have modules available for your grade level yet. The video library contains sample videos of lessons that demonstrate the different portions of the lessons (fluency, application, concept development, debrief)
